'Jeeves' Blooms at First Folio
Directed by Alison C. Vesely, the production marks the return of Christian Gray as the sweet but scatterbrained Bertie and Jim McCance as the incomparable Jeeves, the same roles they played to critical praise in 2008s production of "Jeeves Intervenes". Christian has appeared in numerous First Folio productions over the past 12 years, including the role of James Tyrone in First Folios Jeff-Nominated production of "A Moon for the Misbegotten". He is also a company member of ShawChicago, where he has appeared in over a dozen productions. Jim McCance has been a regular on the Chicago scene for more than 25 years, having begun his career with the famous Body Politic Theater. Recent Chicago appearances include "Barefoot in the Park" at Drury Lane, "Making History" at Irish Repertory, and "Man and Superman" with Remy Bumppo. The cast will also include the return to First Folios stage of two of its most popular Artistic Associates, Kevin McKillip and Melanie Keller. Kevin McKillip will be playing the role of the newt-loving Gussie Fink-Nottle. Kevin has appeared in more than a dozen First Folio productions, including three Jeff nominated roles: Eustace Bassington-Bassington in "Jeeves Intervenes", the title role in "Richard III", and Puck in "A Midsummer Nights Dream". He returns to the Chicago stage following four months at Door Countys Peninsula Players, where his roles included Phileas Fogg in "Around the World in 80 Days" and the painter Francois Millet in "Is He Dead?" Melanie Keller was last seen on the First Folio stage as Gilda in "Design for Living", and has previously appeared in "Angel Street," "Private Lives" and "The Importance of Being Earnest". This coming spring, she will appear in Northlight Theaters production of "A Life". Kevin and Melanie are both veterans of the Stratford Festival in Canada. Rounding out the cast will be James Leaming and Jeannie Affelder. James Leaming, one of the founding members of American Blues Theater, has been a regular in the Chicago theater scene for almost three decades, and his comic brilliance and facility with accents will be put to good use in the dual role of Uncle Tom and Anatole the French chef. Jeannie Affelder, who last appeared with First Folio as Miss Hodge and Grace Harrington in "Design for Living" will be taking on the role of Berties long-suffering Aunt Dahlia. She comes to First Folio following her appearance in Timeline Theaters "When She Danced".

Village Theatre Guild Offers Pulitzer Prize Winner The Village Theatre Guild will ring in 2010 with the Pulitzer Prize winning play "Rabbit Hole" by David Lindsay- Abaire. The show runs from Jamuary 15 through February 6, 2010. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8:00 p.m. Matinees are on Sunday, January 24 and 31 at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $18. The Village Theatre Guild is located near the northwest corner of Park Blvd. and Butterfield Rd. in Glen Ellyn. For tickets call 630-469-8230 or visit the VTG website at www.villagetheatreguild.org. The play invites us into the world of Becca and Howie Corbet, who have everything a family could want, until a life shattering accident turns their wolds upside down and leaves the couple dirifting apart. "Rabbit Hole" charts their bittersweet search for comfort and for a path that will lead them back into the light of day. "What I like about this play is the writing, and the writer David Lindsay-Abaire has an uncanny knack for mixing the ultra dramatic with the ultra comic, better than any other playwright I've read. The situation this family finds itself in is heavy enough, but Abaire craftfully weaves the humor throughout the whole play," said director Bill Burghardt of Glen Ellyn. "It reminds me of one of the most revered moments in television." Burghardt continued, "In the classic Mary Tyler Moore Show, Moore as Mary Richards is at the wake/funeral of Chuckles the Clown and just loses it and breaks into uncontrolable laughter. Often times the only way we can deal with tragedy is by letting the comedic side come in. There are many such unintentional moments like that in 'Rabbit Hole'. The characters don't mean to be funny, they just are. And this to me is theatre at its best. Audiences should come to 'Rabbit Hole' to be amused -- and to be moved". The cast features Paul Mapes, Scott Myers, Candace Snapp, Dianne Wawrzyniak and Anita Vigilante. Maggie Fredricks is producer.

Citadel Couple Takes Simon's 'Prisoner'
Scott and Ellen met in the early 1980s at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. They married, raised four children and managed careers while staying involved in the world of theatre. After settling on the North Shore of Chicago they saw a need for quality theatre in the suburbs and, in 2002 they pursued their lifelong passion by starting the Citadel Theatre Company in Lake Forest. Since then the theatre has produced 17 shows. Scott directed five of those productions, one of which was the critically acclaimed "And Neither Have I Wings to Fly" by local playwright Ann Noble. Ellen has performed in a number Citadel's shows, most notably in 2008 as Pat O'Niel in Scott McPherson's comedy "'Til the Fat Lady Sings". Scott and Ellen have been eager to perform together, but were waiting for the right opportunity to come along. It did when their longtime friend Will Casey, an Equity actor and director who teaches theatre at Columbia College, persuaded the couple to star alongside each other in Neil Simon's "The Prisoner of Second Avenue". "It's a different dynamic working with your spouse because you feel completely comfortable," said Ellen. "Whether it's good or bad, we can be absolutely honest with each other while still having fun." Casey will direct the classic comedy about a middle-aged couple, Mel and Edna Edison, who live in an apartment on the Upper East Side of New York City in the early 1970s. The couple struggles with a series of escalating problems including a job layoff, loud neighbors, a burglary, an extreme summer heat wave, and a garbage strike. Scott notes that many people will identify with the characters' feelings of being overwhelmed by daily issues. "The play takes place in the early 1970s, but almost 40 years later we are dealing with a very similar economic situation," said Scott. "Neil Simon has a knack for finding humor in our everyday difficulties while ultimately showing the resilience we, as humans, can uncover in the face of tremendous personal challenges." "The Prisoner of Second Avenue" opens January 15 and closes January 31, 2010. Show dates are Thursday (except for opening weekend), Friday, Saturday at 8pm, and Sunday at 2pm. All shows are at the Grotto of Gorton Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest. Ticket prices are $25 for singles, $22 for students and seniors. Citadel is offering a discounted two show season rate of $39 for tickets to "The Prisoner of Second Avenue" and "Independence" by Lee Blessing (May 2010). Chicago Casting announced for Brando Biopic
Christian Brando, Marlons oldest child, is a central character in actor/writer David Nathie Barnes play. The Oscar-winning actors son and Barnes spoke over the telephone on more than one occasion. Barnes, a native of Chicago, was pleased that Christian not only read, but approved of the script. He said that I had captured his anger and frustration, the futility of living up to the Brando name, said Barnes. He was truly a lost soul. Barnes will reprise his role as Christian Brando for the Chicago run along with highly touted lead actor Robert Ashkenas, who plays Brando at 80 years of age. Also stepping into the skin of the younger Marlon characters are Jamie Asch and Michael Perez. Film actress Claudia Di Biccari will sink her teeth into the meaty role of Brandos schizophrenic daughter Cheyenne, while SIU Carbondale theatre graduate Beau Forbes will effectively twin the late James Dean in the performances. Legendary Hollywood agent Jay Kanter will be played by Mike Tepeli, an Ill State theatre alum. And the iconic Marilyn Monroe will be embodied by Audra Yokley as a Brando brief love interest. Equally noteworthy are some of the crew working on "ALLL". And handling the set design will be Shaun Renfro, a highly skilled intern for none other than Todd Rosenthal, Tony award winner and Steppenwolf Theatre Company staff member. Directing "ALLL" is Loyola University theatre instructor Susan Felder, who most recently directed "The Quiet Man Tales" at The Chicago Theatre.

Chase Grant Paves Way for New Colony Production
The New Colony had spent the last ten days competing in the social media grant program Chasegiving. Campaigning for votes over Facebook, the top 100 charities with the most votes would be awarded $25,000 from Chase and entry into Round 2. Just hours before the call came, Artistic Director Andrew Hobgood and Executive Director Gary Tiedemann had been making even further cuts to the company's budget. "This couldn't have happened at a better time," said Hobgood. "All of our production budgets have suffered from the financial constraints inherent in a company's start-up years. Finally, our designers get to really show us what they can do. And there's no better show for which we should amp up our production budgets than '11:11'." At the same time that the company was cutting budgets and running a campaign for Chasegiving, The New Colony was also in the final leg of talks to produce "11:11," written by Tara Sissom and "Frat"'s Evan Linder, at the new Victory Gardens Biograph Studio Theater . "Victory Gardens is the Godfather of theatrical world premieres in Chicago," commented Hobgood. "I had always hoped for a New Colony show to open at The Biograph, but to have this opportunity arrive in only our second season is mind-blowing." "11:11" tells the story of the first day at Camp Methuselah Pines and the team of young, Christian camp counselors who unknowingly drug themselves. As the evening unravels, secrets are shared, temptations explored, and a group of friends realize they don't have the same understanding of the same God. Inspired by the experiences of the playwrights and ensemble, "11:11" asks an age-old question of a new generation: why are we willing to fight for something we cannot see or define? Eat s'mores, make 'God's Eyes' and feel the infectious joy of summer camp during February in Chicago. "Honestly, Chasegiving and '11:11' at the Biograph are the perfect way to end an already incredible year for The New Colony," Linder pointed out at the company meeting. "11:11" is directed by Meg Johns, Written by Evan Linder and Tara Sissom, Produced by Samuel Snowden and Sponsored in part by Victory Gardens' Fresh Squeezed. Featuring Caitlin Chuckta, Tim Cunningham, Sarah Gitenstein, Evan Linder, Wes Needham, Whit Nelson, Tara Sissom, Kevin Stangler and Maari Suorsa. "11:11" premieres on Monday, February 8, 2010 with an additional Press Opening Thursday, February 11 at 8:00PM. "11:11" will run Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00PM March 13 at The Victory Gardens Biograph Studio Theater. For more information, visit the New Colony website at www.TheNewColony.org.
