If you haven't, you might want to take a trip to St. Charles, one of the quaint western suburbs. At Pheasant Run's Mainstage, they are currently running the lively, fun, adult musical " I Love You, Your Perfect, Now Change," the off-Broadway musical revue that has the longest run. This show ran in Chicago at The Royal George for close to two years and the four actors/singers/dancers who do it all have all the energy and talent it takes to make this two hour musical revue (sometimes billed as a Seinfeld episode with music) really work. Under the direction of Tom Mullen, musical direction by Ken Jones and choreography by the brilliant Stacey Flaster, Noble Fool Theatricals hits the show's every little innuendo and sexual moment to perfection. The set by Dan Conley is clever, but there were a few scene changes that slowed down what was a fast-paced series of scenes. To do this show properly, a director needs two men and two women who can sing, dance, play the audience to the hilt and this cast does just that. Charissa Armon is no stranger to musicals or to comedy and has a delightful flair for each character she portrays. Amy Olsen, who many have seen in Munster Indiana (Amy, it's time to come into the city) does great characters, young or old. She is fun to watch and what a powerful voice! John Sanders can play a nerd to the nth degree or a macho man, and Karl Hamilton is another solid character actor who really gets the most out of his characters. This show is a revue, a series of skits and musical numbers that interweave to tell and show us about relationships. They meet, they date, they marry, they have children and then it's over. But even when it is over, life can go on as shown in a marvelous scene between Amy and Karl, "Funerals Are For Dating" that will make you laugh, but at the same time bring a tear to your eye. The "Waiting" trio will bring reaction from the audience, as the scenes depict many of the changes that we have all had in our lives. In this scene, Karl is sitting watching a football game eating his nachos and wiping his fingers on his shirt (two women yelled out hysterically "that's my ex!") while Charissa wants to make dinner and needs to know how much longer the game will go. He answers "32 seconds" and she asks, "real seconds or football seconds". John is standing in Macy's waiting for his wife who has left him holding these bags in a department store while she is shopping for more and Amy is waiting in line to go to the ladies room. With her legs crossed and the line too long, she eyes the men's room: no line, no problem. An adorable number, one after another move along the life cycle and leave you laughing and realizing just how we all fall in love and try to change the person we love. So maybe they weren't as perfect as we thought. Come out for the day and enjoy the grounds as well as laugh away any troubles and go home with a smile on your face. "I Love You" will run July 19, 2008 at The Pheasant Run Resort located at 4051 E. Main Street (North Ave/Rte 64) in St. Charles. Performances are Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 5 and 8:30 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets range in price from $27-$38 and are available at the box office, by phone at 630-584-6342 or visit www.ticketmaster.com. About Alan Bresloff
"Exposure to theater is a very important part of a young person's life" he says. "Learning about the arts and culture is in fact learning about life" and he tries to explain more in his reviews than just if it is good or bad. Even some of the poor productions have some value, he often says and he would love your feedback on shows that you have seen. You can write him here or at albresloff@sbcglobal.net.
